URL

Internet is a distributed system. In distributed system what happens, that we are able to access or get the information which is stored in other computer. The Universal Resource Locater in short URL is the unique address of any particular file stored in other computer, which is accessible on the internet. So we are able to get information from the computer which is thousands of miles away from us.A common way to get to a website is to enter the URL of its home page file in your web browser's address line.If someone wants to access a particular file on that website then just type the URL of that page, this means that every page of the website on the internet has a unique URL.
In short the abbreviation of URL is that that its the global address of the documents and other resources on the world wide web.
The first part of the URL indicates what protocol is to use and the second part specifies the IP address or the domain name where the resource is located. For clear understanding let look at the examples below-
ftp://www.unipek.com/stuff.exe
http://www.unipek.com/index.html

In the first example the executable file is fetched up by using the ftp protocol and the second one specifies the a web page that is fetched up by using the http protocol.
